I am so excited to be at Beckham Elementary teaching 5th Grade. The children are settling in and developing good habits with classroom procedures and expectations. This is the first year they switch classes, and they are doing well. Now, what will we be learning?
Reading/Writing: We just finished a unit on traditional literature, stories that have been passed down from one generation to another. These included fables, fairy tales, and myths. We are studying expository text this six weeks. During this unit we will reasearch, paraphrase, summarize, and site sources.
Social Studies: The students have been working on their geography skills. Now they are digging deeper into the history of how the European explorers found America and how that effected the Native Americans. Then we will move into the first settlements in the New World.
Computers: Technology is an integral part of our curriculum. Students will go to the lab twice a week and practice keyboarding, research on the Internet, and create multimedia projects.
Library: Our library day is Wednesday.
Conference: The students go to Music/PE from 2:25-3:15. This is my conference time. Please call or email me anytime. I am more than happy to meet with you or reply to an email.
