Welcome to rm. 312!
We are beginning the second six weeks and are growing in knowledge each day! During our literacy block, we have worked on learning and practicing strategies that great readers use to increase comprehension, accuracy, fluency and expand vocabulary. We have been making connections to the stories we are reading in order to increase comprehension. In writing, we have been working on exploring ways that authors get ideas for writing that are meaningful to them.
During our math block, we have been working with addition combinations of plus 1 or 2, ways to make 10, and doubles combinations. We have discussed different strategies to add and subtract numbers. We have also explored money values, telling time, and shapes.
Our science studies have focused on what it means to be a scientist....from learning what they do to discussing safety measures in science. We are currently learning about characteristics of matter and how matter can change. Next we will begin our study of plants where we will learn about the parts of a plant as well as the plant life cycle.
In Social Studies, we have been strengthening our mapskills by learning how to use a compass rose as well as map keys/legends to explore our community and our country. We will be beginning our study of the history of Arlington and how communities change with time.
