AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
Who is An AVID Student?
AVID students are in the middle, capable of completing a college preparatory path with support. These students often are not realizing their potential academically. Students are recommended by their teacher, must complete an application, followed by an oral interview. We will begin the spring recruitment process in March for next year’s AVID classes.
In the identification process a number of things need to be considered, including:
- Passing TAKS scores
- Passing Grades – Bs and Cs
- Good Attendance
- College Potential
- Self-Motivated Desire and Determination
- Family Support
- Economic Situation
- Other Special Circumstances:

Emotional Issues
