What's Happening:   

                       Welcome Back to Latin!

First week: You'll be submitting your summer assignment, receive introductory letters, etc. on the first day ("C") of school. You'll receive last year's final, and then we'll begin a short review. You'll receive the second year books again, and we'll start at the point we left last year. Next week, you'll be receiving your notebook requirements - bet you can't wait!

8/28-29: We'll continue with the video about the eruption of Mr. Vesuvius. Then you'll finish reviewing the summer practice packet. I'll distribute Ch 32 from the Ecce Romani II book, and we'll look at the vocabulary from that lesson. Homework: Vocab quiz Ch 32

9/2-3: We'll begin with your vocabulary quiz, and then I'll collect the forms for the beginning of the year of rules and information. You'll also receive the notebook requirements for the first six weeks, as you'll learn about and take notes on the ablative absolute grammar construction. Homework: Beginning of "Midas"

9/4-5: We'll review Your homework. Then we'll review the ablative absolute grammar. You'll receive your textbooks for the year, and we'll discuss the vocabulary from Ch 33. Homework: Translate the first two paragraphs of the story from Ch 33.

9/8-9: After checking and reviewing your homework, you'll finish translating the story. Afterward, we'll examine the adjectives which are expressed in different degrees. I'll distribute you a packet on information about degrees of adjectives and adverbs. We'll discuss comparative degree first. Homework: Page 110 of the packet, and study about comparative formation.


              Remember, your word picture project is due on 9/22 and 9/23!


9/18-19: You'll take your test on degrees of adjectives and adverbs. Then, you'll learn the vocabulary from Ch 35. We'll begin translating the story in groups. Homework: Vocab Ch 35 quiz.Also, project is due.

9/22-23: You'll take your quiz and we'll work on finishing the story of "Crime" from Ch 35. Then, I'll teach you about (take notes) on Dative with adjectives. We'll work a few sentences to see how that is applied. Then we'll look at the vocabulary for the story about Daedalus and Icarus. Homework: Vocab quiz.

9/24-25: After taking the quiz, we'll begin translating this story in class. Homework: Finish the translation.

Test on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct 1 and 2

9/25-9/26: After checking your homework, we'll review aboout participles. Then you'll receive the story of Baucis and Philemon, which we'll begin translating in class. Homework: Finish Baucis and Philemon

9/29-30: We'll check your translation and review for the test. I'll tell you the test format. Homework: Test

10/1-2: Test. Then you'll receive the Notebook requirements for the 2nd six weeks. I'll teach about the present active participle. Homewoerk: Worksheet Drill I

10/3-6: We'll review your test, and continue with learning about participles - their formation and uses. We'll complete the worksheet, and begin translating a story about The Twelve Tables. Homework: Finish translating this story.

10/7-8: We'll review your story and participles. We'll do exercises on one worksheet, and then, for homework, you'll translates Exercise A, odd sentences, and B 1,3,5 on the participles worksheet.

Test over Participles, Oct 16 and 17                    

10/9-10: We'll review your homework, and then I'll teach you about the locative case. We'll examine how to show this place relationship. Then, we'll begin the story about Cornelia's letter in Chapter 36. You'll finish this story, pp 87-88 for homework.

10/14-15: After checking your homework, you'll learn about how Romans expressed dates of the calendar. Then, you'll learn about the format for your participles test. We'll review ablative absolutes on the participles worksheet. Homework: Study for test!!

Remember, your Halloween project is due on 10/21 and 10/22!

10/16-17: Test on Participles/Locative. You'll receive worksheets on formation of infinitives, which you'll take notes on. Homework: Lesson 28 worksheet on infinitives.

10/20-21: We'll check your homework, and then you'll receive worksheet Lesson 61which deals with indirect statements. We'll examine how infinitives and their subject accusatives are used with this grammar concept. You'll receive a story about wars. We'll look at the vocabulary first. Homework: Vocab quiz on "Bella"

10/22-23: After checking your homework, we'll continue learning about indirect statements, as we  look at different worksheets.  We'll translate the story about wars in class. Homework: Worksheet Lesson 36 (front side only!)

                                                   Test over Infinitives, Oct 30 and 31
        
10/24-27: After checking your homework, we'll continue reviewing indirect statements. You'll receive a story on "Superstitions" which we'll begin translating in class. Homework: Translate through line 19 of the story.

10-28-29: We'll check your story, and then finish translating. I'll tell you the test format for next class. Homework: Study for test on infinitives.

10/30-31: Test on Infinitives. Then, you'll learn vocabulary for a quiz. Then, you'll watch the first episode of Rome, the Great Empire. You'll take notes on this to help you with a quiz over the information. Homework: Vocab quiz 73.

11/3-4: You'll take your vocab quiz, and then we'll finish the video and you'll take your quiz on that. Next, we'll examine the subjunctive mood, and learn how to form the present tense. We'll begin learning about the hortatory/jussive/volitive use. Homework: Worksheet exercises.

11/5-6: We'll review your homework, and the subjunctive mood. Then, we'll begin translating the story from Ch 10, called "The Farewell Dinner. Homework: Finish translating the story.

                                             Test over Subjunctives, Nov 17 and 18

11/7-10: We'll check your translations, and then look at the vocabulary on p 66. You'll learn about the use of adverbial purpose, and we'll begin translating the next story, from Ch 11: "On the Way:. Homework: translate through line 21.

11/11-12: We'll check your homework, and then finish the story. We'll review about the use of hortatory and adverbial purpose clauses.
