2011-12

Math - Brushing up on multiplication facts is very important as we begin our new year. Students should be able to give the correct answer within two seconds. So whip out those flash cards and practice, practice, practice. Ones through tens were to be mastered in third grade. 4th graders should be able to recall and apply multiplication facts through 12x12.

Reading - Reading daily and nightly is a requirement.  Choosing from a variety of authors and different genres makes reading more interesting and exciting. Parents, please ask your child to tell you about what they have read. Remember word calling isn't reading. Comprehension is reading, and that means your child can tell you about what they have read and infer what will happen next. With your support, your child should perform well when taking their TAKS test in April.

Writing - This is a big year for writing.  Our TAKS Writing Test will be in March. Not only will writing a composition be a requirement, but there will also be a mechanics part to this test. Feel free to give constructive comments to your child as you read over their compositions. Ask them to make corrections in spelling and capitalization before handing in their writing compositions. Neat handwriting is also a requirement.

Science - We'll move three cycles of science this year, which will be Life Science, followed by Earth Science and ending up our Physical Science cycle.  Our field trip to River Legacy will be in January.

Social Studies - Knowing geography and mapping skills will be needed as we begin our journey throughout the diverse regions of Texas. We'll learn about explorers, why six flags flew over Texas, and how Texas became a state.
